Soul-loving space

The importance of a Soul-Loving Space and How to create one.

What is a soul-loving space?

A soul-loving space is a place to call home. A place where you can truly relax and be yourself. It is a place where you can maintain optimum health and relax. It is essential to enable you to survive and thrive in our busy fast-paced world. I think is important to say here that this is not about buying your dream home or spending loads of money you might not have on major home improvements or new décor. It is about working with what you have. For me, I have had two failed attempts at purchasing my own home and got evicted from my previous accommodation, which frankly had become unsafe due to my housemate’s antisocial behaviour and some dubious practices by the landlord. As a consequence, I have ended up living in a teeny tiny studio apartment, but have worked hard to make that a space I can truly relax in. Read on to discover how you can create a soul-loving space.

Steps to create a soul-loving space.

Step 1. Assess your current space.

So I know we all live in different circumstances. Some of you may have the luxury of your own homes. Some of you may be in tiny bedsits, studio apartments, rented accommodation or shared accommodation, with just one room to make your own. The idea of creating a soul-loving space is to work with what you have got, and also to work within your budget. Again here we are all at different points, some have budgets and are free to do what you like within reason, others, myself included live in someone else’s house and have to respect their rules so are not able to decorate or things like. The first step to creating a space that nourishes you is to work out your starting point and the limitations that it creates. Ultimately how does your space make you feel?

Step 2. Define how you want your space to feel.

Secondly, work out what is important to you. So what is your style? Do you like lots of vibrant colours, do you like calming pastels? Do you like lots of things around you or would you rather have a more minimalist approach? More importantly, how do you want your space to make you feel? If you have more than one room, think about them in turn. If you share a house whether it be with family, friends or housemates do you have a space to call your own? If so what do you want that to be like? Determine what you need in each space, and also what nurtures you.

Step 3. What small thing could you do to change your space?

Do you need to remove any items that no longer serve you? Do you need to add elements that nurture your soul? For example, plants, art, lighting, books. What do you need to change to make it a peaceful relaxing space? Is it the colour scheme? Could you do it with a cosy chair? The possibilities are endless. Ultimately you do you.

For me, as I said I don’t own my own home, so it has been about changing soft furnishings belonging to me. I have made new cushion covers, to add colour scheme that I would like. I bought a chair. It was second-hand on Facebook marketplace and has made the space so much more enjoyable for me. Also, I am a huge nature and outdoor fan, nature nurtures my soul, so I have a lovely plant stand. It can all easily be unscrewed and flat packed if and when I need to move again, but it has several easy-to-care-for plants on it. I also have some important pictures that mean something to me. Nowadays you can get picture hangings that enable you to hang pictures that do not damage the wall when you take them down.

The possibilities for creating your soul-loving space are endless, no matter the space you have available. However, one thing is for sure once created the soul-loving space will improve your life in many ways. It will become your sanctuary from the world. It will be a space to truly relax in. If you cleared clutter as part of this process then it should be much easier to manage and keep clean, freeing up time to use on other passions.
